Total commemorative banknotes issued is under 1,500 pieces. If you have achieved any figures close to this, then you are doing extremely well, as many of the older commemorative notes are hard to find even in poor conditions.

Opinion: Many collectors of commemorative banknotes would have come across with those Somaliland sets overprinted with gold and silver texts with the following wordings - 5th Anniversary of Independence 18 May 1996 [Sanad Gurade 5ee Gobanimadda 18 May 1996]. I believe these are "home made" (or fake) and not authorised by the central bank. My argument is simple. No central bank would have issued an overprint commemorative banknote that the texts are so large that it would cover the two signatures on the note as well as part of the serial numbers. Even if these are genuine notes, then these could be issued as souvenir sheets and not as legal tender. As I said before, this is my opinion. If you have paid top dollars for these, please think about my argument. There is always a sucker around the corner, including me of course!

All comments are most welcome but it has to be subjects related to banknotes or banknotes collection. If not, it will not be approved. Thanks

Ukraine - 100 "Hryvnias" 100th Year of Ukrainian Revolution 1917-1921 and First Ukrainian Paper Currency

Україна
Ukraine

Національний банк України (National Bank of Ukraine)

This is non-circulating commemorative banknote issued to celebrate 100th anniversary of the Unitarian Revolution 1917-1921 and the introduction of the first Ukrainian paper currency.

The design of this note is based on the design of the 100 Hryvnias note issued on 17.10.1918, however this new note is a souvenir commemorative as it is not legal tender. This note is printed with the year date of 2018. A total of 100,000 pieces have been issued on 17.12.2018 with 50,000 sold in a souvenir pack. This is the second non legal tender note issued by the bank.

This note is measured 171mm x 80mm.

One Hundred Hryvnias
Dated 2018

Footnote:
I wonder why the Central Bank issuing such non legal tender souvenir note? This must be the cheapest way to raise funds without any monetary or financial responsibility. Most Central Banks would issued commemorative legal tender banknotes at a premium to cover such liability. Every banknotes collected by a collector is considered as a free loan to the issuing bank. In this case, we can't even request for our money (at face value) back as this is just a piece of paper printed on with no purchasing power or value whatsoever. This is the second time the National Bank of Ukraine doing this. Few central banks around the world had done the same too. However even those hyper inflation notes issued by Zimbabwe have a much better collectable value that this. For example, just have a look at the ZWL$100 trillion note. This note is from worthless to a highly desirable among collectors.
