This is the 30th commemorative note issued by Transnistria since 2009. Like previous issues, the designs are the same but with the commemorative logo added to the watermark area of the banknote. 

Transnistria, officially known as the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and to the locals simply as Pridnestrovie, is a landlocked breakaway state internationally recognised as part of Moldova. This note celebrates the 35 years of declaration of independence from Moldavian SSR (now Moldova) on 2nd September 1990.

Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1990, the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic (Transnistria) was established, hoping that they would still be part of Russia should Moldova decide to seek unification with Romania. Moldova then became independent in 1991, and shortly after that arms conflict started between the two parties (Transnistris and Moldova) in March 1992. Ceasefire was declared in July 1992, but the dispute is still unresolved until today. 

Despite declaring independence in 1990, apart from Russia, hardly any other countries recognised the independence of Transnistria, except for Abkhazia and South Ossetia. However, both Abkhazia and South Ossetia are also disputed territories themselves and both are considered as part of Georgia by the rest of the world.

Like those previously commemorative issued, only 2,500 pieces are printed with 2,490 issued in a booklet. The Transnistria Ruble is not negotiable outside its territory. 

One Ruble 

Front - The format and design of this note is similar to the 2012 series. A portrait of the Russian General Alexander Vassilyevich Suvorov (b.1730-1800) in military uniform. General Suvorav was a Russian born military hero holding the rank of Field Marshal Generalissimo. He was born in Moscow and joined the army at the age of 17 and was promoted to the rank of colonel when he was 32 years old. By 1787, he was then promoted to the rank of General. During his lifetime, he was involved in at least 57 battles/wars with the majority of these conflicts ending in victory in his favour. He died at the age of 70 years old and was buried in the city of St Petersburg. He was the fourth Generalissimo of Russia.

To the right of the note where the watermark area is, is printed with the map of Transnistria (commemorative logo). The map is divided into seven districts illustrated in the colours of the flag of Transnistria. Next to the map, is the commemorative text:-

The never ending story continues.  

Here, another 1 ruble overprint commemorative is released celebrating the end of the last war, World War II. Nazi Germany was defeated in Mid-April in Eastern Europe and the war did not end until the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany on 08.05.1945. 

This is the 29th commemorative note issued by Transnistria since 2009. Like previous issues, the designs are the same but with the commemorative logo added to the watermark area of the banknote.

On the front cover, it depicts a very well known picture of two Russian soldiers raising a Soviet Union flag over the Reichstag (Parliament) in Berlin. This picture was taken by Tevgeny Ananyevich Khaldei (b.1917-1997) during the final stage of the war in Europe. The picture was taken on 02.05.1945 during the Battle of Berlin.

Here is another low value commemorative banknote of 1 ruble. issued in October 2024 for the celebration of 100th year since the formation of MASSR (Памятная банкнота 100 лет со дня образования МАССР).

The Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (MASSR) was formed between 1934 and 1940 as an autonomous republic of the Ukrainian SSR. The MASSR encompassed the modern territory of Transnistria as well as the present day Podilsk Raion of Ukraine. During World War II, the Soviet Union took parts of the MASSR's region and dissolved the autonomous territory of MASSR. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1990, the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic (Transnistria) was established, hoping that they would still be part of Russia should Moldova decide to seek unification with Romania. Moldova then became independent in 1991, and shortly after that arms conflict started between the two parties in March 1992. Ceasefire was declared in July 1992, but the unresolved dispute is still unresolved until today.

 

The Transnistria currency of ruble is not negotiable outside its territory. A total of 1,500 pieces were issued, of which 1,490 pieces are packed in booklets.

This is a never ending story.....

 

Here is another commemorative numismatic banknote, reportedly released on 15.08.2024, for the celebration of the territory's 30th anniversary of the Pridnestrovian Ruble currency 1994-2024. The Transnistria ruble is divided into 100 kopecks. 

 

This never ending story continues. This is the 27th* commemorative banknote issued since 1994. On average, Transnistria has issued 0.90 banknote per year since 1994 or 1.8 notes since the first commemorative note of 2009 was issued. I do not believe any other country would have matched or better this wonderful record over the past 30 years for issuing so many commemorative banknotes. The disappointing part is that out of the 27 commemorative notes issued, only one commemorative note has a new design. The rest of the 26 notes issued came from existing circulating notes with added commemorative text or logos over the watermarks area. Whilst the commemorative notes design are almost all the same, the bulk of such issues are limited edition with quantity printed from 1500 to 2500 sets (7,070 sets for the 2015; 70 Years of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War (World War Two).

The official name of Transnistria currency in English is 'Pridnestrovian Ruble'. The design for this 1 ruble commemorative note is the same as the current circulating note but is printed with the commemorative logo on the watermark area on the right hand side of the note. This note was first issued in 2007 and then upgraded (reprint) in 2012.

 

Like those previous commemorative notes issued, this is a limited edition with a total of 1,500 printed and 1,490 sets sold in a simple folder at a premium. It is not sure what the bank will do with the remaining 10 individual pieces, or whether they are retained for their archives.

The Transnistria ruble was first introduced in 1994. Transnistria was formed in 1990 following the breakup of the Soviet Union. Transnistria continued to use the Soviet Union rubles in 1990 as their own currency. In 1992, Russia began to introduce its own currency, and this led to Transnistria flooded with the obsolete Russian rubles, and in order to protect its own financial system, it introduced it's own ruble currency in 1994. Because Transnistria is not a recognised nation, their currency is not negotiable outside its territory. Internationally, Transnistria is recognised as part of the Republic of Moldova.

This is a 1 ruble commemorative overprint banknote issued on 07.09.2023 for the celebration of the 100th Year of Gold Chervonets. The word Chervonets is a Russian name for large foreign and local gold coins. As the word Chervonets is a Russian word, it means 'Red' or 'Rose Gold'. 

 

The minting of the Russian Gold Chervonets was first started in 1923 and 1925. These Gold Chervonets were not sold overseas and most of them were held and retained by the government. Very few of these survive since then as most of them were recast into bars or used for other purposes. The Gold Chervonets when first minted have the face value of 10 Russian roubles. The gold coin has a weight of 8.60 grams and a pure gold content of 7.74 grams. Because of its scarcity, one of these gold coins can fetch around US$7,000+ in today's market.

 

The design of this note is similar to the 1 ruble dated 2007 (released 2012) and with the commemorative logo added to the design on the front. As this is a commemorative limited edition banknote, only 2,500 pieces of these commemorative notes have been printed with 2,490 pieces packed and sold in a simple booklet as numismatic products.

General Suvorav was a Russian born military hero holding the rank of Field Marshal Generalissimo. He was the fourth Generalissimo of Russia. To the far right is an image of one Gold Chervonets printed on the watermark area. The image of the one Gold Chervonets is showing the reverse side of the coin, with a peasant spreading seeds on the ground (on the obverse side is the Coat of Arms of Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic - RSFSR). On top of the coin is printed with the Russian words - 'ЗОЛОТОМУ ЧЕРВОНЦУ' (Golden Chervonets), and on the bottom '100 ЛЕТ' (100 Years).

1) Transnistria is an unrecognised state. However, it is recognised by three other unrecognised states, like Abkhazia (Georgia) Artsakh (Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh), and South Ossetia (Georgia).

3) The Government of Transnistria controls a narrow strip of land (4,463 square kilometers) situated between the Dniester river and the Moldova-Ukraine border.

This is another one ruble overprint commemorative banknote released on 18.05.2021, for the celebration of 30 years of the PMR financial system in Transnistria.

 

This is an overprint commemorative on the current 1 ruble design similar to the 2012 (2007) modified series. A total quantity of 2,510 pieces printed with 2,500 notes sold in booklets/folders.

 

The commemorative text/logo is printed to the right side of the note where the usual watermarks are. The design consists of two numerals and a Transnistria billowing flag. The following text are also printed on the note:

Back - Kitskansk Bridgehead memorial or Chiţcani monument in Chitcani. This monument was built in 1972 (opened 09.05.1972) to commemorate victory against the German invasion during the Second World War in 1944. Chitcani is situated north of Tiraspol, the capital city of Transnistria.

1) Transnistria is an unrecognised state. However, it is recognised by three other unrecognised states, like Abkhazia (Georgia) Artsakh (Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh), and South Ossetia (Georgia).

2) Independence or secession from Moldova was declared on 02.09.1990.

3) The Government of Transnistria controls a narrow strip of land (4,463 square kilometers) situated between the Dniester river and the Moldova-Ukraine border.

4) Internationally, Transnistria is recognised as part of Moldova.

5) Transnistria first introduced it's own currency on 22.08.1994. 

6) The Transnistria ruble is a non recognised currency outside its territory and as such it is not possible to exchange it into Moldovan lei or any other currencies.

Here is another commemorative overprint note of one ruble. This note was reportedly issued on 01.04.2021, celebrating the 30th year of the first Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic's bank. The design of this note is the same as those previous notes issued in 2012 (dated 2007), but with the commemorative text and logo added to the watermark area on the right-hand side of the note. There are no changes to the design on the back. As usual, only 2,500 sets were issued and again, I do not have information as to what was the official issue price for this set.

This is the 17th series of commemorative notes issued since 2009. In all, 24 commemorative notes have been released and it seems that there is no end in sight to this kind of commemorative issue.

This is a one ruble banknote dated 2007 but printed with a commemorative logo on the watermark area, celebrating Transnistria's 30th year of independence of Moldova. Moldova does not recognise Transnistria as an independent nation nor are they recognised by the United Nations. This note was released on 31.08.2020.

In 2015, Transnistrian Republic Bank released a set of four banknotes celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Independence. The notes issued were 1, 5, 10 and 25 rubles. These notes were all printed with the year date of 2007.

Transnistria is a narrow strip of land located on the eastern side of Moldova, sharing a common border with Ukraine. Transnistria declared independence from Moldova on 02.09.1990 following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990. It then fought a brief war with Moldova in 1992. Fighting between Moldova and Transnistria actually started as early as in November 1990. Ceased fire was then signed on 21.07.1992 between the two disputing parties thus avoiding any further escalation of the conflict. Since then, many talks were held to resolve this issue including concessions to the Transnistria side but without any success. The status between Transnistria and Moldova have not changed since the signing of the cease fire in 1992. Transnistria managed to remain independent of Moldova largely due to Russian's support and needless to say the Transnistrians are very pro Russia too. Judging by the design of the note will tell you this is the case as on the front it depicts a Russian General Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorav (b.1730-1800). On the back, it illustrates the Kitskansk Bridgehead memorial or Chiţcani monument in Chitcani in Transnistria.

It is reported that only 2500 sets were issued and all notes come with a simple card folder.

This is the 23rd commemorative note issued since 2009. Most of the commemorative issues are of single note but with few exceptions. However only the 2019 25th Year of National Currency note was issued with a completely new design whilst the rest were printed with commemorative logos on existing issues.

Another commemorative 1 ruble banknote issued by the Pridnestrovian Republican Bank. This note was issued on 06.05.2020, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War (World War Two). The design of this note is the same as those 2007 banknotes issued, with the added logo of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the St. George ribbon printed on the right-hand side of the note. Only 2,500 pieces issued in a simple booklet.

 

I have no information regarding the official issue price.

From May 6, 2020, commemorative banknotes with a face value of 1 ruble “75 years of the Great Victory” were put into circulation.

The commemorative banknote has a format and design similar to the 2012 banknote (dated 2007) of the corresponding denomination, with a special marking on the right side of the front side of the banknote depicting the logo of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the St. George ribbon.

The circulation for this commemorative banknote is 2,500 pieces, which are packed in booklets.

Commemorative banknotes of the Pridnestrovian Republican Bank are legal means of circulation and payment in the territory of the Pridnestrovskaia Moldavskaia Respublika, are obligatory for accepting at face value all types of payments by all organizations irrespective of the form of ownership and sphere of activity.
